About Counselling.

I offer a professional, compassionate, warm and confidential space where you can share your deepest thoughts. I will help you to explore your feelings, your thoughts and your behaviours with compassion.

There may be old patterns that served you once, but are no longer effective, as well as possible relationship issues that need attention and care. In my experience, everyone can face difficulties in their lives, too often people suffer in silence, stay stuck or feel generally hopeless and powerless. I get it, I've been there too. When faced with the right environment, our difficulties can become a source of change and growth creating different outcomes and possibilities.

I endeavour to not give opinions or judgements, but I will guide you through your journey and be with you through the ups and downs that may arise, and help you to make sense of those occurrences, offering you an empathic, listening ear in a safe environment and completely at your pace.

Our therapeutic relationship will grow as you bravely let me into your world, and I will honour that privilege by helping you create a new toolbox of coping skills and guiding you to make effective changes to your life, thus becoming a newer version of you. This is the aim of counselling.

Hi there, take a deep breath. The hardest part is deciding where to start and by reading this, you have begun your search for clarity, so welcome. Firstly  I'd like to introduce myself as Kerry, your friendly Somatic Trauma Therapist,
living in Hilperton /Trowbridge, with my husband and our adult son.

Before this career, I ran a freelance hairdressing business where no two days were ever the same, one minute I was doing a quick trim, the next I was travelling to help someone feel their best on their wedding day. Somewhere in all those conversations across the chair, I started noticing how naturally people open up when they feel seen.

That awareness grew as I went through my own experiences with therapy. Working through personal trauma gave me a deep appreciation of how transformative the process can be and how people are often just doing the best they can with what they’ve got. That truth stuck with me. Eventually, it became the reason I trained professionally.

Now, my practice is shaped not just by qualifications, but by the lived experiences that help me meet clients with empathy and real understanding. I believe therapy doesn’t have to feel clinical, in fact , I don't want it to..it can be a space where people feel secure enough to be themselves, at their pace, in their own way.

I know that life can feel overwhelming at times, and it’s completely natural to lose our sense of direction. I’m here to support adults and young people through challenges like trauma, anxiety, and relationship struggles, using an approach that considers the whole person mind, body, and emotions. In therapy, safety comes first, which is why I work with a model called the Tri-Phasic Trauma model. Together, we’ll first focus on creating a secure foundation, then, when you’re ready, we’ll gently explore the parts of your story that still affect you today, weaving new insights and coping tools into your daily life. Healing isn’t a straight line, you may circle back to that secure base, revisit certain moments, or pause to integrate before moving forward.

We’ll gently explore how your past shows up in your thoughts, feelings, and habits today, without the pressure to dissect every chapter of your life. Therapy isn’t about reliving every detail, it’s about noticing the parts of your history that still affect you now and working with those. You choose how much you share, and we only delve into what feels safe and useful. This keeps our work grounded in the present, helping you find relief and growth without feeling overwhelmed.

There is no time limit, no rush, you set the pace and through psychoeducation and somatic techniques, we’ll explore ways to bring relief, restore balance, and reconnect with yourself.

Having experienced therapy myself, I truly understand how big of a step this can be, and how vulnerable and sometimes scary it is, but you don’t have to navigate it alone, I’ll be alongside you, creating a space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported, to carve out a new pathway for you.

What next?.....

I know it can feel daunting and even a bit scary to meet someone new, especially when you’re inviting them into your story. That’s exactly why our first session is a free, 30-minute online meeting designed just for you. There’s no commitment, no pressure, just a gentle, secure space where you set the pace.
We’ll spend our time together:
  • Talking through what’s led you here and what you hope to achieve.
  • Answering any questions you have about my background and how I work. I’ll let you know about the Humanistic, Integrative, and Somatic Trauma therapies I draw on, so you have a clear picture of the tools in our toolbox.
  • Checking in on how you feel in this space, if it feels right, we can plan our next steps; if it doesn’t, that’s okay too.
If we both feel comfortable moving forward, we’ll pick a regular weekly slot that fits around your life. We can discuss any alternatives. That way, you have a consistent appointment reserved just for you, a secure harbour where we can explore deeper work over time.
Meeting someone for the first time can stir up nerves, but remember, you’re in control here. I’m here to listen, to support, and to help you decide whether I’m the right person to walk alongside you on this journey. I look forward to meeting you and taking that first brave step together.
Rest assured, all sessions are private and confidential.
How will it work? What do I do as an Integrative Trauma Therapist?
As an Integrative Trauma Therapist I can use many therapies, perspectives and interventions, but your focus is not on what therapy I use, it is on what is presented to me about you and what you need. Rather than specializing in one traditional approach, I seek to combine aspects of different approaches to provide the most effective way of working. My attunement to you is the most important aspect to create a way that works in the most compatible and safe way for the individual that you are, whilst building our therapeutic relationship with trust and honour.
You’re not broken, you’ve been managing the best way you know how and in our one-to-one sessions (in person or online) I’ll offer simple, jargon-free tools, maybe breathwork, body awareness, gentle movement, and self-regulation techniques, to support you between meetings.

Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.” (Carl Jung,1875-1961)

Somatic Trauma Therapy

Somatic Trauma therapy is a body-centred approach to therapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body to promote healing, particularly for trauma and stress-related conditions. It recognizes that emotions and experiences are often stored in the body and aims to release these through physical and emotional awareness. Techniques are used to help release pent-up trauma or stress stored in the body, completing the "stress cycle" that may have been interrupted during traumatic events. Tools such as breathwork, grounding, tapping, body scans etc are applied.

Person Centred Approach...

This approach places value on establishing a warm and empathic relationship between us. I help you understand how certain patterns and problems are present in your life, open up your thinking and possibilities to manage situations in a healthier way. It is based on the idea that you have your own resources to come up with your own solutions in a supportive environment and you are able to reach your maximum potential. You are the expert of you!

Psychodynamic ...

Identifies unconscious thought patterns that come from significant past experiences you had in your life, especially from your childhood, and are now getting in your way of moving forwards in some way. I will guide you in how to stop repeating the same old behaviours that once seemed helpful but are no longer serving you in your current stage of life.

Attachment Theory...

Focussing on the learned relationships and bonds we made and formed with our caregivers in the early years and how those may have impacted our relationships since. A belief that our early relationships moulded our relationships in our future. How do we relate in the present?

Psychoeducation...

Is a way of giving clients a better understanding of the mind-body connection, and how this can manifest in an array of symptoms. Bringing the client’s awareness to the physical symptoms and the connection with mind. The client can gain more power over their responses and reactions when they know how and why reactions occur.

I work at my home, where there is a cosy wooden cabin, in my garden, in Hilperton near Trowbridge, Wiltshire.(Address given when contract formed).

Fees, cancellations and no shows.

Counselling is at its best, weekly. This is for progression, consistency, your commitment and effectiveness.
These sessions are an hour in length and at the same time and place every week. We will try our best to maintain this, but will also be mindful of life circumstances, that sometimes get in our way.

I charge £55 per hour, each session, but offer a reduced fee for students, and those in financial hardship. This is something we can negotiate together in our assessment.

I operate a pre-payment system within my practice. To minimise last minute cancellations and to show your commitment to attend, payment will need to be made prior to your session time, usually before the session.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash.

No shows and cancellations/Lateness/ Too early or ending a session early.

If you cannot attend a scheduled session due to illness or other personal circumstances, I require a 24 hours notice of cancellation, as the timeslots that are allocated to you cannot easily be assigned to another client at short notice. In the event of a cancellation, I will try to reschedule your appointment for a later day within the same week, or at the weekend. I fully understand that illness or life circumstances, can not be timed, or chosen, for any of us, so will do my best in that knowledge. If a mutually agreed alternative cannot be found, I charge our agreed fee in full. All non-attendances with less than a 24 hours notice will also be charged. Scheduled breaks such as holidays will not be charged for if prebooked.   Should I need to cancel a session due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances, I will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible, and I will offer you an alternative appointment within the same week or at the weekend. If a mutually convenient appointment cannot be agreed, your session fee will be put towards a later session or refunded if necessary. Should you arrive late for a session or decide to end a session before the scheduled time, my standard fee remains applicable. Too early. I cannot guarantee I would be ready to see you as previous clients may be with me, and entry is not available until I collect you. I advise that you are no earlier than 5 minutes, unless agreed otherwise. This also protects you from bumping into anyone else in the vicinity, keeping your confidentiality.
